Variations of Banana Bread

There are so many fun variations that you can do with this recipe!

  • Peanut butter swirl – To make this recipe packed with even more peanut butter, you can melt a 1/2 cup of natural peanut butter for 30 seconds in the microwave and swirl the peanut butter throughout the batter with a toothpick. Then bake!
  • White chocolate chips – I used peanut butter, and chocolate, chips in this recipe but you can use any chocolate chips that you would like! Dark chocolate or even white chocolate chips!

Equipment

This banana bread recipe is so easy because it comes together in just one bowl! I would recommend a large bowl for this recipe. While you can make this recipe in just one loaf pan, I always encourage customers to split the dough between two 8 x 4 inch loaf pans! You get double the loaf cake and it bakes faster! Win win! See my favorite loaf pans here.

Storage Tips

Store the bread in a airtight container, or resealable plastic bag, in the fridge for 5-7 days or you can freeze your bread in the freezer for 3-4 months!

This recipe is so perfect for those quick lunches or snacks when your hungry! Or when your expecting company over. Just defrost your bread from the freezer for about 3 hours and you are set!

Top tips

A few tips as always:

1. Make sure you toss the peanut butter chips with 1 tablespoon of flour before adding to the batter so the chocolate is perfectly suspended throughout the bread.

2. Split the recipe into two loaves as the recipe is written. It bakes faster and you get double the bread! I always either freeze the other or gift one to a friend.

3. Be sure to not over mix the batter! If you want a moist and tender banana bread, that is the most important tip!

4. Lastly, put extra peanut butter and chocolate chips on the top of the bread before baking so that you have a real show shopper when it comes out of the oven!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Why is banana bread frequently not baked all the way in the middle?

When banana bread is not baked all the way in the middle, it is typically because the banana bread was not checked with a tooth pick before completing the baking process. Place the tooth pick in the middle of your bread, if it comes out clean then it is baked completely. If the tooth pick does not come out clean, then you would place your bread back in the oven to continue baking.

What kind of pan is best for baking banana bread?

A loaf pan is best for baking banana bread. A loaf pan gives banana bread its characteristic loaf shape and allows for even baking.

Can I add extra bananas to my banana bread recipe?

It is important to only add the amount of bananas that the recipe calls for in a banana bread recipe. Adding additional bananas to a recipe can change the texture, color, and bake of the bread itself. If you have additional ripe bananas, you can freeze them and use in a later recipe.
