Mushroom Pasta Ingredients

To make this delicious mushroom pasta recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • Olive oil-Use your favorite oil for this recipe, I used olive oil but feel free to also use EVOO, or avocado oil as well!
  • Onion-A small onion works perfectly for this recipe! However, you can also substitute 2 shallots, green onions, leeks, or even onion powder if you do not have a regular onion.
  • Mushrooms-I used sliced portobello mushrooms for this recipe due to their meatiness but feel free to use any sliced mushrooms that you prefer.
  • Garlic-I used fresh minced garlic in this recipe but you can also use dried garlic power or dried minced garlic to make this recipe super easy!
  • Oregano and Basil-Use dried or fresh for this recipe! I used dried herbs and it was delicious!
  • Dijon mustard-The mustard in this recipe gives this recipe a deep savory flavor!
  • Heavy cream-While the heavy cream makes this recipe super rich and creamy, but you can also substitute for soy milk or coconut milk!
  • Parmesan cheese-Parmesan cheese is the the perfect cheesy, salty bite! You can also use vegan cheese.
  • Linguine pasta– Feel free to use your preferred pasta for this recipe but the linguine is perfect!
  • Optional: Parsley and additional parmesan cheese on top is a must!

Use the following step-by-step instructions for how to make this super easy, delicious pasta dish:

Add olive oil to the pan along with onions and mushrooms. Sauté for 2-3 minutes or until the onions are translucent.

Boil water in a separate medium pot, season well with salt, and add linguine pasta. Cook for about 7 minutes or until al dente.

Add heavy cream and parmesan cheese to onion and mushroom mixture. Simmer on medium-low for about 10 minutes or until thickened.

Add the pasta and mix until all of the noodles are coated in the sauce. Garnish with parsley and parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

  • Gluten-free – instead of using regular pasta, you can substitute with your favorite gluten-free pasta.
  • Vegan – use coconut milk, vegan pasta, and vegan parmesan to easily make this recipe easily vegan-friendly!
  • Meat – this recipe would also be delicious with seared fish, grilled chicken, or sauteed steak!

  • Spicy – Make this dish spicy by adding crushed red pepper flakes and pepperoncini’s to the pasta for all of the spice lovers in the family!
  • Mushroom-free-While this pasta dish is already made this mushrooms, you can easily swap out the mushrooms for broccoli, peppers, spinach, or your favorite vegetable or protein substitute.
  • Kid friendly – Feel free to omit the mushrooms for the kids in your life. The alfredo pasta on its own is still a huge hit!

For this recipe, you will need a medium pot for boiling the pasta, and a cast iron skillet for making the sauce. If you do not have a cast iron skillet, you can use a medium saucepan as well!

Mushroom Pasta Storage

This pasta dish will stay good in an air tight container in your fridge for about 3-4 days!

While the cooked pasta will not stand up well to freezing, the creamy mushroom alfredo sauce can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. My favorite way to store the sauce is in ice cube trays so that I can easily add a creamy, luscious sauce to any recipe!

  • Make sure to salt your boiling pasta water liberally before adding the pasta, to season your pasta appropriately.

Mushroom Pasta

  • 3 Tbsp Olive oil or preferred oil

  • 1 Pound Linguine pasta or your preferred pasta
  • 1 Tbsp Parsley Optional garnish

Instructions
 

Mushroom Pasta

  • Preheat a heavy-bottomed medium-sized cast iron pan over medium heat.
  • Add olive oil to the pan along with onions and mushrooms. Sauté for 2-3 minutes or until the onions are translucent.
  • Boil water in a separate medium pot, season well with salt, and add linguine pasta. Cook for about 7 minutes or until al dente. Set aside.
  • Then add the garlic and cook for about a minute or until fragrant. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Then add oregano and basil, stir well for 30 seconds. Add mustard and stir for about a minute.
  • Add heavy cream and parmesan cheese to onion and mushroom mixture. Simmer on medium-low for about 10 minutes or until thickened.
  • Add the pasta and mix until all of the noodles are coated in the sauce.
  • Then serve with optional parmesan and parsley on top. Enjoy!
