Taco Bell’s Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada Launches Today With Pink Frosting and Rainbow Sprinkles

Taco Bell’s newest dessert takes birthday cake out of the cake box and puts its flavor inside a crispy empanada.

The Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada launches today, Thursday, October 15, at participating Taco Bell restaurants nationwide. The limited-time dessert features cake batter-flavored filling, pink frosting, and rainbow sprinkles, with a suggested price of $3.49.

According to Taco Bell’s announcement, distributed through PR Newswire, it is available while supplies last. Prices and participation vary by restaurant, taxes are extra, and delivery prices are higher.

The release is Taco Bell’s third collaboration with Milk Bar, the bakery brand founded by pastry chef Christina Tosi.

Birthday Cake Flavor Inside a Crispy Pastry

The dessert pairs a crisp, golden pastry shell with a cake-batter-flavored filling. Pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles decorate the top, carrying the birthday theme beyond the center.

The filling is an important distinction: this is a cake-inspired empanada, not a slice of Milk Bar cake enclosed in pastry.

The defining contrast is between the crisp shell and the filling, with frosting and sprinkles adding a decorative finish. Taco Bell also announced custom packaging for the release, although packaging may vary.

The result is a familiar celebration flavor in a different format. Instead of layers cut into slices, the collaboration centers on an individual filled pastry.

The Suggested Price Is $3.49

The advertised $3.49 price is a suggested price for one Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada, not a guaranteed total at every restaurant.

Taco Bell advises customers to check local prices, hours, and whether the item is available. Taxes are additional, and delivery pricing is higher.

People’s October 8 report also identifies the $3.49 price and October 15 release date. The product was announced a week ago, but it launches nationwide at participating locations today.

The company’s announcement includes no specific end date for general menu availability. The stated limits are time and available supplies.

That differs from the birthday-reward promotion, which has a defined October 28 cutoff for choosing the empanada.

A Third Collaboration With Milk Bar

The companies first worked together in 2022 on Strawberry Bell Truffles, which incorporated pieces of Taco Bell’s Crunchy Taco Shell into Milk Bar’s Cake Truffles.

They reunited in 2025 for Birthday Cake Churros, filled with birthday cake frosting and finished with pink confetti sprinkles.

The new empanada continues the birthday theme while changing the pastry.

In its official newsroom announcement, Taco Bell describes the collaboration as bringing Milk Bar’s Birthday Cake flavor into a new Taco Bell format.

That history provides context without making the products interchangeable. The truffles, churros,, and empanada are separate desserts, each borrowing elements from both brands’ menus.

Eligible Members Can Choose It as a Birthday Reward

From October 15 through October 28, eligible Taco Bell Rewards members can choose the Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada instead of a regular Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze as their birthday reward.

The offer is for members celebrating a birthday who have added that information to their profile. Members can redeem it only through the Taco Bell mobile app at participating U.S. locations, while supplies last. No purchase is required.

The reward terms distinguish between two timelines:

  • The birthday reward is valid for 31 days from the date of issuance.
  • The empanada option is available only during the October 15–28 promotional window.

The longer reward-validity period does not extend the empanada option beyond October 28.

The offer is limited to one reward per transaction. It cannot be transferred or combined with another offer, and substitutions, upgrades, and add-ons are excluded.

What to Know Before Ordering

Customers do not need a birthday to purchase the dessert. Regular menu availability begins today at participating restaurants, with local pricing and supplies determining what is available.

For the birthday reward, check eligibility and the offer details in the Taco Bell app. October 28 is the final day for the promotional empanada option, not an announced end date for regular sales.

The central idea is reinvention: a familiar birthday flavor served in a different pastry. Would you try it for the cake batter-flavored filling, or is the crispy shell what makes the combination interesting?
