Banana Donut Ingredients
For this flavorful, and moist, banana donut recipe you will need the following ingredients:

Banana Donut Batter Ingredients:
- Ripe Bananas-Ripe bananas are certainly preferred for this recipe! Are your bananas not yet ripe? Stick your bananas in the fridge overnight to speed up the ripening process!
- Coconut sugar- Feel free to use coconut sugar, or light brown sugar for this recipe! Both work great!
- Granulated sugar- You can also substitute with coconut sugar as well!
- Whole milk- I used whole milk for this recipe but you can also use your preferred milk! I have used oat and almond milk for this recipe and it works great!
- Butter- Using unsalted butter for this recipe is preferred, however if you only have salted sticks of butter than just omit the kosher salt in this recipe.
- Vanilla extract- You can also use vanilla paste or vanilla bean seeds as well for this recipe.
- All-purpose flour- Feel free to substitute with 1:1 gluten-free flour as well for a delicious gluten-free option!
- Cinnamon and Nutmeg- The addition of these delicious spices make these donuts so comforting and are highly recommended for this recipe.
- Baking powder and Baking soda- Baking powder and baking soda are needed for this recipe since this recipe is egg-free!
Butter Cream Frosting:
- Unsalted butter-Using unsalted butter for this recipe is preferred.
- Vanilla extract- You can also use vanilla paste or vanilla bean seeds as well for this recipe.
- Powdered sugar-Feel free to also use a powdered sugar-free substitute as well!
- Whole milk-I used whole milk for this recipe but you can also use your preferred milk! I have used oat and almond milk for this recipe and it works great!

Use the following step-by-step instructions for how to make this easy banana donuts:

Add ripe bananas to large mixing bowl. Use a fork to mash the ripe bananas completely.

To the same bowl add the coconut sugar, granulated sugar, whole milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the banana mixture and whisk until combined.

Then add the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.

Spoon the banana donut batter into each donut mold on your donut pan. Fill only half way up the donut mold. Be sure to smooth out the top of each one.

Bake your donuts in the oven for 13-15 minutes, or until golden brown. These should pass the tooth pick test, where your tooth pick comes out clean when placed in the center of each donut. Set aside to cool completely.

Once your donuts have cooled, make the butter cream frosting. Add room temperature butter, vanilla extract, powdered sugar to a bowl. Either whisk by hand, or use a stand mixer, to mix/whip completely. Frost and enjoy!
Hint: Make sure you do not over mix the donut batter once you add the dry ingredients. Fold in the dry ingredients with a spatula until no more dry ingredients (like flour) are seen. Then stop mixing.

- Gluten-Free-If you want to try a gluten free version of this recipe then I recommend using King Arthur's measure for measure gluten-free flour instead of all-purpose flour.

Donut Variations
There are so many fun topping variations that you can use with this recipe instead of vanilla butter cream frosting!
- Melted chocolate
- Peanut butter
- Marshmallow fluff
- Caramel
- Nuts
Equipment
This banana donut recipe is so easy because it comes together in just ONE bowl! I would recommend a large mixing bowl for this recipe.
If you are making the vanilla butter cream frosting for the top, then you will also need a small mixing bowl.
Lastly, you will need a non-stick donut pan for baking these donuts in the oven.

Storage
Store the donuts in an airtight container, or a resealable plastic bag, in the fridge for 5-7 days or you can freeze your donuts in the freezer for 3-4 months!
This recipe is so perfect for those quick breakfasts or snacks when your hungry! Or when your expecting company over. Just defrost your donuts from the freezer for about 3 hours before they arrive and you are set with a quick dessert recipe!
Top tips
- Make sure you do not over mix the donut batter once you add the dry ingredients. Fold in the dry ingredients with a spatula until no more dry ingredients (like flour) are seen. Then stop mixing.
- Fill only half way up the donut mold. If you overfill, then your donuts will rise too much and you will not longer have a hole in the center of your donuts.
- If you want to try a gluten free version of this recipe then I recommend using King Arthur's measure for measure gluten-free flour instead of all-purpose flour.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Your baked donuts may be dry for a few reasons. Firstly, you want to make sure that you do not overmix your donut batter, this will yield dry, dense baked donuts. Lastly, you want to make sure that you do not over bake your donuts in the oven, this will yield a dry and crumbly texture.
To keep your donuts from drying out, make sure to store your donuts in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 5-7 days. This helps the donuts stay fresh and retain their moisture.
Baked donuts have a different texture than fried donuts. Baked donuts have more of a cake-like consistency, where as fried donuts have more of a light, and airy consistency with a crispy, golden brown crust.
