A Miami-Dade judge has found probable cause to hold a Florida woman accused of stabbing her friend with scissors during an Uber ride. The judge set Lynn Marie Zamora’s bond at a total of $7,500.
Zamora, 32, was arrested after the confrontation Monday night, July 13, in southwest Miami-Dade County. Investigators allege she attacked the man after he repeatedly told her she could not drink beer inside the rideshare vehicle.
The injured passenger suffered wounds to his left arm and left leg. Emergency crews transported him to a hospital, where medical workers treated injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Zamora faces one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She remains presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
The beer dispute preceded the attack.
Zamora and the unidentified man had been staying at the Best Western Plus Kendall Hotel & Suites in Miami before the incident. They requested an Uber to take them to another friend’s home.
During the trip, Zamora told her companion that she wanted to drink a beer. He responded that alcohol consumption was not permitted inside the vehicle.
Investigators say the man repeated the warning several times. Zamora allegedly became irritated and insisted that she should be allowed to drink during the ride.
The confrontation then escalated. Authorities allege Zamora reached into her purse, removed scissors, and stabbed the passenger in his left bicep and left calf.
The attack occurred inside the moving rideshare vehicle. Police have not released the injured man’s name or provided more information about his relationship with Zamora.
Zamora was arrested on Monday night on suspicion of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Authorities later booked her into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Uber driver stopped the vehicle.
The Uber driver pulled over immediately after the dispute turned violent. The driver exited the vehicle, followed closely by the wounded passenger.
The victim called 911 after getting out. Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputies responded near Southwest 137th Avenue and Southwest 74th Street.
Investigators interviewed the driver and the injured passenger at the scene. The driver said the argument began after Zamora wanted to drink beer inside the vehicle.
That account gives investigators an independent witness who was present during the confrontation. Prosecutors could use the driver’s testimony to establish how the disagreement began and how quickly it escalated.
Emergency personnel took the injured man to a nearby hospital. Medical workers used staples to close the wounds in his arm and leg.
Authorities described the injuries as non-life-threatening. They have not disclosed how long the victim remained hospitalized or whether he will require additional treatment.
Zamora declined to give investigators a statement after the arrest. Officers transported her to the Hammocks police station before moving her to the county correctional center.
Police have not publicly confirmed whether they recovered the scissors. They also have not disclosed whether the driver had an interior camera that recorded the incident.
Investigators could examine the 911 call, medical documentation, trip information, and any available vehicle footage. Those materials could help establish the timing and sequence of events.
Uber rules prohibit alcohol.
Uber’s community guidelines prohibit drug use and open containers of alcohol during rides arranged through its platform. Passengers are instructed not to bring open alcoholic drinks into a driver’s vehicle.
The company also permits drivers to refuse or end trips when passengers behave dangerously or appear too intoxicated to travel safely. Those rules are intended to protect drivers, passengers, and other road users.
The policy applies even when a passenger is not operating the vehicle. Riders must also follow local laws and respect reasonable requests involving a driver’s car.
Authorities have not said whether the Uber account connected to the trip was suspended. The company has not publicly identified the driver or announced whether it provided trip information to investigators.
Nothing in the available case details indicates that the driver suffered an injury. The driver’s decision to stop the vehicle allowed both men to leave before deputies arrived.
Court reviews probation status.
Zamora appeared remotely from jail during an initial court hearing Wednesday. A judge found probable cause for the aggravated battery allegation and imposed the $7,500 bond.
Her attorney asked the court to transfer her to a hospital. The judge denied that request at the hearing because an alleged probation violation needed to be addressed separately.
Prosecutors said Zamora was already serving probation for a previous battery conviction involving a person aged 65 or older. They also cited earlier assault and battery convictions and a conviction for tampering with an electronic monitor.
Those prior convictions do not establish guilt in the new case. Her probation status, however, may affect whether she can secure release even if the current bond is paid.
Under Florida law, aggravated battery may apply when someone intentionally causes serious bodily harm or uses a deadly weapon while committing battery. The state classifies the charge as a second-degree felony offense.
Prosecutors must establish that the scissors legally qualify as a deadly weapon under the circumstances. The way an object was used, its capacity to cause serious injury, and the resulting wounds can become central issues.
The defense may challenge the witness accounts, physical evidence, and conclusions presented after the arrest. No plea or trial date has been announced.
Zamora’s next reported court appearance on the aggravated battery charge is scheduled for Aug. 12. A separate proceeding is expected to address the alleged probation violation.
