These grocery stores are rolling out a family-sized Thanksgiving meal for under $40

Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t have to mean filling your grocery cart with expensive ingredients. Several major supermarket chains are advertising holiday meal deals for under $40 this year, letting families put turkey, traditional sides, and dessert on the table without a complicated shopping list.

But there’s an important catch: most are ingredient collections you’ll still need to cook, and the advertised prices depend on specific dates, products, or membership requirements.

Before making your holiday shopping plans, here’s what each retailer is offering and what you should know about the fine print.

ALDI: Thanksgiving Dinner for 10 Under $39

ALDI’s Thanksgiving meal offer includes ingredients for a traditional holiday dinner serving 10 people. The retailer advertises the selection for under $39, with a reported total of $38.74.

The meal features a 16-pound Farmer’s Choice whole turkey, three boxes of stuffing, three pounds of sweet potatoes, Hawaiian sweet rolls, fresh cranberries, frozen peas, baby carrots, and celery. Dessert ingredients include pumpkin pie mix, pie crusts, whole milk, and heavy whipping cream.

One appealing feature is that shoppers don’t need coupons, a loyalty membership, or a minimum purchase to access the advertised offer.

However, the promotional prices begin on different dates. Most ingredients are available at the advertised prices from October 14 through November 25, while the turkey promotion begins November 4 and pumpkin pie mix starts November 11.

That means shoppers hoping to purchase the complete selection at once should pay attention to the overlapping promotional period.

ALDI’s deal is a list of cook-at-home ingredients rather than a prepared holiday dinner. It’s also worth checking the actual items before shopping, since the offer doesn’t include every side dish a household might traditionally serve.

Lidl: A $35.86 Thanksgiving Basket for Up to 10

Lidl’s Thanksgiving Meal Basket offers ingredients for up to 10 people at an advertised total of $35.86. That works out to about $3.59 per serving, based on the retailer’s stated estimate.

The selection includes a Shady Brook Farms frozen whole turkey, russet potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, baby carrots, celery, stuffing, gravy mix, macaroni and cheese, and ingredients for green bean casserole.

Shoppers can also prepare pumpkin pie using the included pumpkin, evaporated milk, pie crust dough, and whipped topping. Marshmallows and Hawaiian rolls round out the holiday selection. The promotion runs November 11 through November 25, while supplies last.

Unlike ALDI’s offer, Lidl requires an active Lidl Plus membership and an app scan at checkout. There’s also a limit of one promotional basket per Lidl Plus account. Another detail matters when choosing the turkey: the advertised total assumes a bird weighing no more than 14 pounds. Selecting a heavier turkey increases the final cost.

For shoppers already using Lidl Plus, the deal provides a relatively extensive holiday ingredient list. But anyone planning to use it should check the membership and turkey-weight requirements first.

Schnucks: Thanksgiving Ingredients for 10 at Under $4 Each

Schnucks’ Thanksgiving promotion is another option for families preparing a traditional holiday meal. The retailer’s current announcement says the ingredients can serve 10 people for under $4 per person.

Earlier reporting described the promotion as a meal for under $40, but the retailer has not published a confirmed exact basket total.

The announced selection includes a Schnucks whole frozen turkey, 10 pounds of russet potatoes, stuffing mixes, celery, gravy mix, green beans, corn, sweet potatoes, and mini marshmallows. It also includes ingredients for green bean casserole, Bunny Brown ‘n Serve rolls, a Marie Callender’s pie, and whipped topping.

The promotion is scheduled for November 18 through November 25. There’s one important condition: the advertised turkey price requires a Schnucks Rewards digital coupon.

The retailer also notes that product availability and prices can vary by store. Serving estimates are based on manufacturers’ suggested portions, so the amount each household needs may differ.

For shoppers who already participate in Schnucks Rewards, the promotion could simplify planning a traditional menu. However, the exact final total remains unconfirmed.

Wegmans: A Traditional Thanksgiving Meal for Eight

Wegmans’ Thanksgiving meal offer is designed to serve eight people for less than $5 each, bringing the advertised total below $40. The ingredients include a 13-pound Shady Brook Farms frozen turkey, brown gravy mix, stuffing, corn muffin mix, onions, chicken stock, dinner rolls, corn, and cranberry sauce.

The selection also provides ingredients for green bean casserole, five pounds of russet potatoes, three pounds of yams, macaroni and cheese, and a Sara Lee frozen pumpkin pie. Wegmans has announced different promotional dates for the turkey and other ingredients.

The frozen turkey offer runs November 8 through November 22, while the remaining Thanksgiving promotions continue through November 28.

That gives shoppers less time to buy the full selection at the advertised promotional prices. Wegmans also identifies some geographic exclusions. The advertised per-person pricing doesn’t apply at its Astor Place or Brooklyn stores in New York or its Chestnut Hill location in Massachusetts.

The offer includes a familiar holiday menu, but shoppers should verify local store prices and note the earlier turkey deadline.

Winn-Dixie: Two Thanksgiving Meal Options Under $40

Winn-Dixie offers both cook-at-home and heat-and-serve Thanksgiving meals, giving shoppers two ways to approach holiday dinner.

The cook-at-home meal is advertised at under $40 and is intended to serve up to six people. Its reported ingredients include a 10- to 14-pound Butterball frozen turkey, stuffing, gravy mix, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole ingredients, rolls, and an eight-inch pumpkin pie.

That offer is scheduled for November 11 through November 25.

The separate heat-and-serve deli meal costs $39.99 and serves three to five people. It includes a Dietz & Watson Carver ham or turkey, four Reser’s sides selected from six available choices, and King’s Hawaiian dinner rolls.

The deli promotion runs from November 4 through December 29. According to company-spokesperson reporting, it doesn’t require preordering.

These are two distinct offers, not interchangeable versions of the same basket. The heat-and-serve meal doesn’t include the pumpkin pie listed with the cook-at-home selection.

For shoppers who want to minimize holiday prep, the deli option offers a different experience than buying ingredients and cooking everything from scratch.

What to Check Before Choosing a Thanksgiving Deal

The under-$40 headline makes these promotions attractive, but the details matter as much as the advertised total.

A meal intended for eight people isn’t directly comparable with one advertised for six or 10. Some offers require digital coupons or store memberships, while others depend on purchasing a turkey within a particular weight range.

Preparation matters, too. Most of these promotions are ingredient collections, meaning shoppers still need to cook the turkey and prepare the sides. Winn-Dixie’s separate heat-and-serve offer is the exception among the options described here.

Finally, remember that advertised prices don’t guarantee local checkout totals. Store availability, taxes, fees, and household recipe preferences can all affect the final bill.

Thanksgiving doesn’t need to be elaborate to feel special, but checking the details before shopping can help make the holiday meal easier to plan.
