ABC Reportedly Slashes ‘The View’ Salaries and Wardrobe Budget as Whoopi Goldberg and Co-Hosts Push Back

NEW YORK — As of Monday, Aug. 3, ABC had not publicly confirmed claims that “The View” reduced host salaries and cut wardrobe and production spending. The allegations surfaced shortly before the daytime program began its annual summer break after completing Season 29.

The claims involve Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin. ABC has not announced changes to the panel, and the network has not released individual salary or production budget figures.

Unnamed Sources Describe Broad Cuts

Unnamed sources alleged that all six co-hosts accepted pay reductions after Season 29 began on Sept. 8, 2025. The same account described salary and wardrobe reductions affecting the program’s on-air talent and production.

The account placed Goldberg’s compensation in the middle of the seven-figure range, making her the panel’s highest-paid member. It put Farah Griffin’s salary in the middle of the six-figure range and claimed ABC rejected her request for a raise.

None of the hosts has publicly verified those figures. No contracts, payroll documents or internal budget records have been released to support the amounts.

The allegations also cover the clothing budget used to style the hosts. Unnamed sources said the program had reduced access to expensive designer pieces and moved toward lower-cost wardrobe choices.

Additional claims involved a smaller production setup, fewer product integrations and the cancellation of the annual Halloween episode. ABC has not publicly confirmed any of those changes.

The distinction between confirmed information and anonymous claims is important. The available evidence establishes that the allegations were published, but it does not independently prove the private financial details.

Audience Figures Remain Strong

The budget claims emerged while “The View” continued to lead its daytime category. During the week of July 13, the program averaged 2.572 million weekly viewers.

That audience was 10% larger than during the comparable week in 2025. The program also averaged 210,000 women ages 25 to 54 and 158,000 women ages 18 to 49.

Season-to-date data placed the show first in households and total viewers among broadcast daytime talk programs. It averaged 2.622 million viewers and held the top ranking for a ninth consecutive season.

Those ratings do not reveal whether the show meets ABC’s internal financial targets. A program can lead its category while facing lower advertising prices, increased production costs, or corporate spending limits.

The show also distributes content beyond its weekday broadcast. Season 29 included the “Behind the Table” podcast and “The Weekend View,” a streaming edition built around the same panel and editorial operation.

The program moved into a new downtown Manhattan studio when Season 28 began in September 2024. That confirmed relocation provides context for the unverified claim that the current production now uses a less generous filming arrangement.

Brian Teta serves as executive producer, while Sarah de la O directs the program. ABC has not announced any leadership changes tied to the alleged reductions.

ABC’s original Season 29 launch announcement confirmed that all six co-hosts returned when the season opened. The network has not announced a replacement or departure since then.

Disney Reports Advertising Pressure

ABC operates within Disney’s entertainment division, which combines television, film and streaming businesses. Disney does not publish separate revenue, operating income or expense figures for “The View.”

The company reported that its entertainment segment generated higher revenue during the first fiscal quarter of 2026. However, operating income declined by $600 million as programming, production and marketing costs increased.

Disney also said segment advertising revenue decreased by 6% from the previous year. The company attributed that change partly to corporate transactions and unusually high political advertising during the comparison period.

Those companywide figures do not establish a direct reason for any decision involving “The View.” They do show that ABC’s parent company was managing weaker advertising results and higher entertainment costs during the same fiscal year.

Traditional television companies now spread programming across broadcast networks, streaming services, podcasts and social platforms. That model can expand a show’s audience while increasing pressure to control expenses that do not produce measurable revenue.

Summer Reruns Fill the Schedule

“The View” completed Season 29 with a prerecorded episode on July 24. The season ended July 24 with Molly Ringwald as a guest and a performance connected to the Broadway musical “The Lost Boys.”

Encore episodes began airing July 27 during the program’s customary summer hiatus. The break is expected to last about one month, with live broadcasts anticipated after Labor Day.

The panel remained unchanged throughout Season 29 for a fourth consecutive year. The show continued to feature Goldberg as moderator alongside Behar, Hostin, Haines, Navarro and Farah Griffin.

ABC had not announced an exact Season 30 premiere date as of Aug. 3. A separate September return remains expected, but the network had not released a full premiere-week schedule.

The return will provide the first clear look at any visible production changes. Until ABC or the hosts address the allegations, the reported salary, wardrobe, and studio reductions remain unverified.
