Subway’s Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub Returns October 27 After 12 Years

Twelve years after its last appearance, a Subway sandwich with corn chips tucked inside is back on the menu.

The Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub returns October 27, bringing together chicken, enchilada sauce, cheese, vegetables, and the crunch of Fritos. Subway says the sandwich was last offered in 2014.

It arrives alongside another returning item, the Caramel Apple Cookie, and a buy-one-get-one Footlong promotion for eligible Sub Club members.

The timing is deliberate. Subway is beginning its National Sandwich Day celebration a week before November 3, pairing a name from its menu history with a short-term digital offer.

For customers who remember the sandwich, the return offers a chance to revisit an old order. For everyone else, the idea is straightforward: the chips are part of the sandwich, not a side.

A 12-Year Gap Ends October 27

Subway announced the comeback on October 21, with the sandwich returning to participating restaurants nationwide beginning October 27.

Subway’s launch announcement says both the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub and Caramel Apple Cookie are limited-time offerings.

The 2014-to-2026 gap is the central hook. This is not a seasonal sandwich returning after a few months away. Subway is reaching considerably further back into its menu history.

That gives the launch two audiences: people who recognize the name and people encountering the sandwich for the first time.

Neither group needs a history lesson to understand what sets it apart. Fritos go directly into the build, giving the familiar chicken-sub format a different combination of ingredients and textures.

What Comes on the Returning Sandwich

The announced recipe starts with rotisserie-style chicken marinated in enchilada sauce.

Fritos corn chips and Baja Chipotle sauce join Monterey Cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and red onions. Instead of leaving the chips in a separate bag, the sandwich includes them alongside the chicken and vegetables.

That arrangement makes the corn chips central to the concept. The chicken and sauces provide the filling, while the Fritos introduce a crisp element.

The enchilada name describes the sandwich’s sauce and flavor direction. This is an enchilada-inspired sub, not a traditional enchilada served in a tortilla.

For customers deciding whether to try it, the ingredient list offers a more useful guide than nostalgia alone. The current combination brings together sauced chicken, chipotle sauce, cheese, fresh vegetables, and corn-chip crunch in one order.

From the Original Melt to the Returning Sub

The earlier sandwich was marketed as the Fritos Chicken Enchilada Melt. The returning version carries the “Sub” name, as Allrecipes noted in its coverage.

Its current build gives returning customers something to compare with their memories while introducing the chip-filled sandwich to people who never tried the earlier version.

A long absence can make a familiar menu name feel new again. Still, the comeback rests on what is being served now, not on a promise to recreate someone’s exact 2014 experience.

For longtime customers, that leaves room for rediscovery. For newcomers, there is no earlier sandwich to measure it against, only the current recipe and whether the combination appeals to them.

The Caramel Apple Cookie Returns, Too

The sandwich is not the only item coming back.

Subway says its Caramel Apple Cookie was last offered in 2021. The returning cookie includes apple pieces, caramel chips, and salted caramel crunch, finished with a caramel-icing drizzle.

Apple and caramel give the dessert its autumn connection without relying on pumpkin as the seasonal centerpiece.

The cookie is also a separate menu choice. Customers can try it without ordering the returning sandwich, just as they can order the sandwich without adding dessert.

Together, the two items create a launch built around familiar names from different points in Subway’s recent history: a sandwich absent since 2014 and a cookie returning after five years.

Both are available for a limited time.

How the Footlong BOGO Offer Works

From October 27 through November 8, eligible current and new Sub Club members can get a free Footlong when they buy another qualifying Footlong.

The promotion applies to orders placed through Subway’s app or website at participating U.S. restaurants. It is not an automatic discount for every customer or every ordering channel.

Subway says the offer will automatically appear in eligible members’ app wallets. Signing in to the correct account is therefore an important part of redeeming it.

Customers should review the Sub Club terms and the specific offer in their account before submitting an order.

The practical checkpoint is checkout: confirm that the selected sandwiches qualify and that the discount appears before paying.

The Restrictions Worth Reading

The free Footlong must be of equal or lesser price than the purchased sandwich.

Subway’s promotion specifies that add-ons cost extra and tax applies. The offer is limited to one use per order and cannot be combined with other offers.

Fresh Fit, 5 Meat Italian, and Big Hot Pastrami sandwiches are excluded.

Those details matter when comparing the advertised promotion with the final total. A buy-one-get-one offer does not mean every sandwich combination or upgrade automatically qualifies.

The November 8 deadline belongs to the promotion. It should not be treated as the confirmed departure date for the returning sandwich or cookie.

A Comeback With a Crunchy Center

Subway’s October 27 launch combines two returning menu items with a members-only offer, but the sandwich’s defining idea remains simple: put the corn-chip crunch inside.

The 12-year absence gives the return its news value. The current ingredients give customers something more immediate to consider.

Some may approach it as an old favorite. Others may see it as a different way to order chicken. The comeback makes room for both.

When a sandwich returns after more than a decade, what better test is there than whether it earns a place in today’s order?
